Learn Yiddish: The language of the Survivor
$29.99
You might be surprised to know that Yiddish simply means “”Jewish”” in Yiddish. It is German-Hebrew hybrid that is spoken by the Ashkenazi Jews. Interestingly, it was recently discovered that the Ashkenazi language was likely developed by travellers from four small villages in Turkey as they plied the Silk Road.
The Eastern Variant of the Language is the most popular and is spoken by many in Poland, Hungary, and Ukraine to name a few places. Outside of these European countries, the language is spoken in North America especially among polish migrant populations in New York.
The language was once spoken by over 10 million people but that number has dwindled since the holocaust where millions were killed, many of them Ashkenazi Jews. It is now classified by the UN as “definitely endangered”.
